Age is just a number

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer was named the fifth starter in the Phillies rotation today. No, big deal right? Not quite, Jamie Moyer is 47 years old. That ladies and gentleman is old for professional baseball, Moyer has been jeered and made fun of for his velocity, with some saying his fastball couldn't break a window from ten feet away. Despite the skeptics, Jamie keeps coming back year after year and is succesful. Additionally, Jamie underwent 3 surgeries this off season on his knee, groin, and abdomen, and beat out 25 yr old Kyle Kendrick for the job. Moyer's longevity and success is astounding, and who knows how long he will continue to play. All we know is that age is merely a number to this southpaw, he blocks out the skeptics and stays focused on the task at hand, a lesson we all could learn.

  1. hey, for a 47 year old guy,
winning the 2009 NLCS must have been great.
too bad his last memory from 2009
baseball is losing the World Series
    to the 27-time World Champion
    NY Yanks.

    nice blog, though! =]
